Studio Friday-Interconnected

" I am not thinking of connections one might feel to other "great artists" of the past or inspiring, high-profile contemporaries, but the connections that help keep you happy in the studio. Artist friends you get together with for critiques or just coffee and supportive conversation. For instance I am in a group of four women who get together for all of that, plus find venues to occasionally show together, and we encourage each other in every possible way. Maybe you are part of a class or group that gets together to try out new techniques once a month. Or do you have a beloved teacher you still talk with on occasion who helps you feel connected to and strengthened by your past. Isolation can cause fear and despondency: the artist alone in the ivory tower is often the one who commits suicide or stops working! We are all interconnected and honoring and recognizing that is an immense comfort and inspiration and source of strength for me, and I am sure for others too."

A single strand of string is easily broken but combined they are stronger. These strands were crocheted together to make a warm and strong scarf. I have a lot of people who support me, my boyfriend Mark, my best friend Michelle, My family...especially my Mom! We still get together every sunday to work on scrapbooking. We love to go out to our little town and find a place to paint or draw. She's always been there for me, she's the reason I got into art in the first place, she also taught me how to crochet and is always the person I go to for inspiration and ideas whether it be art or life.

Studio Friday-Collections

"Most people collect something, it would be fun to see what others have in their collections."~ Silvia

I collect vintage hats,shot glasses, and earrings! I know every woman has a ton of earrings but I Love Earrings! I buy a pair for every special occasion. Everytime I wear them it makes me think of a certain special day.

(This was done by attaching the earrings to magazine clipings, I took a photo of each and cropped them so.)

Here's the painting I did for my niece Jessica. She loves faires and pixies. I was a little rusty painting it but she was really surpised and happy which is all that matters!
